Switching To Mac Part III

Well, the third part in my “switching” series was supposed to be about rollouts of Mac OS X in corporate environments, but that has changed.

The Macbook I purchased just a few weeks ago has come down with quite an illness. It shuts down randomly. Sometimes when it’s plugged in, sometimes when running on batter power, often numerous times before it decides that it wants to run for an extended period without shutting down while I’m drafting an email or performing some other task.

Apparently, I am not alone in experiencing this problem. It appears that the likely culprit is one of the main hardware components in the notebook and that I will have to take it to my local Apple store, where they will then ship it out for repairs. From what I’ve read this process can take two weeks or so, and it’s aggrivating that I have to deal with this considering that the machine is almost brand new.

It would be much nicer iff Apple would replace my machine, transfer my stuff onto the new one, and then repair the current one and sell it as refurbished. That would be much faster and would lead to higher customer satisfaction. However, I’m sure there are logistical or monetary reasons that prevent such an efficient and mutually rewarding solution.

This will be my first experience with the staff at the Apple store (beyond my initial purchase) and I’ll probably post an update as to the quality of their service, which so far has been excellent.
